Last night was the opening of the first ever Portland Winter Light Festival.

Inspired by light festivals all over the world, for the next four days it’s Portland’s turn to shine! The festival is centered around OMSI, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

PortlandWInterLightFestival5It didn’t occur to me to dress for the occasion but why not? The creative culture of Portland was as much on display as the art.  People came brightly adorned in lights and many more wore both lights and costumes. My favorite group were dressed as Yeti’s led by the mighty Mike of Yetiland.

Over 20 lighting artists share their work up and down the Esplanade along the river. My favorite installations were the Braille message in lights by Kirsten Rian and the towering flower “Helianthus Emorme” by Chad “Fez” Gaetz.

The festival caps my year of exploring color and light. Don’t miss it if you live in Portland!
