  1. I took a class with Sarah Shriver. She recommends Fimo classic for canes. Not wanting to spend the rest of my life conditioning clay, I went with Premo. She’s right. Everyone else went home with a lovely kaleidoscope cane but all I had was a mushy mess.

  2. Actually, I absolutely LOVE Kato clay…it’s pretty much the only thing I use. Premo is a fabulous artist grade clay and is the preferred choice of many clayers. However, my hands get pretty warm so it tends to get squishier for me than Kato does. I’ve had wonderful success with using Kato clay for canes because it is so firm…I pretty much only use Premo when I’m wanting a particular color I haven’t figured out how to make with Kato. But definitely try the Premo…you may really like it. Hope that helps…good luck!

  3. I would be very interested to know what clay people who build canes use….I’ve become very disillusioned with Kato clay, and need an alternative. Is Premo! good, or too squishy to use?
