LaMastra peeled papers from discarded crayons to create colorful collage pants and made a remarkable crayon Mohawk headdress to match. ” The event? A “Junk to Funk” fashion show with costumes made from recycled materials. It looked like great fun!

Crazy crayons seem to be the theme this week, so I searched for some crayon artists. I found lots of links to Jeffrey Robert and Don Marco but I liked Amanda Morley’s wonderful colors and her very hip drawings. I also liked Deborah Lanino’s beautiful illustrations in a more traditional style. I know there must be some other wonderful, colorful, crayon artists out there. Send them my way.

If you have a few extra minutes this weekend and need a laugh, Kent Koren’s short mockumentary “True Colors” is a hoot. This seven minute home video starts with a commercial, sorry, but I was laughing out loud by the end.

I hope you have your big box of 64 Crayola crayons ready for Monday’s tutorial. We will use them to color the handouts. Since color monitors and color printers are all different this will make it possible for everyone to be looking at the same colors – an inexpensive alternative to a Pantone fan deck.

After marveling at the sculptured crayons of Pete Goldlust and Deim Chau on Tuesday courtesy of contributors to Cynthia Tinapple’s Polymer Clay Daily, I woke up the next day to more crayons on the front of the Living Section in our paper. “The “Crayon Man” created by Jen LaMastra was a superhero-style costume.
