Here&#8217;s one of the pieces along with a short story describing how it came to be.<\/p>\n<p>I was planning on making a loop on loop collar. I had it all sketched out at full scale. I made an 8&#8242; long pinched snake and laid it out alongside the sketch. As I bent the snake into the tight curves that I needed for the loops I started to think that they reminded me of Gothic stone tracery.\u00a0So I took it in that direction instead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/20130406_Ely_Cathedral_01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"20130406_Ely_Cathedral_01\" src=\"https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/20130406_Ely_Cathedral_01-279x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MaggieRAMGothic4web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Serpentine Gothic\" src=\"https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MaggieRAMGothic4web-275x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have to admit that I&#8217;m thrilled by this accidental discovery. It combines my fascination with serpentine forms and my architectural background in a way that I never could have come up with in my head or even my sketchbooks. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t until I saw it coming together before me on the table that the ah-ha moment came.<\/p>\n<p>I played with a number of variations along the way. Little by little the colors shifted to almost neutral, the curves became more regular and the clasp less complicated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MaggioRAMGothic2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-6128\" alt=\"MaggioRAMGothic2\" src=\"https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MaggioRAMGothic2.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MaggioRAMGothic2.jpg 271w, https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MaggioRAMGothic2-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/maggiemaggio.com\/color\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MaggioRAMGothic2-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I didn&#8217;t like the first four drafts.
