When I first picked up polymer clay my daughters were very young and I was reading them story books every night. I loved the beautiful illustrations and was inspired by the colors of folk art and fables.
I came across what would later be called the Watercolor Technique when I needed to brighten up some appliqued color on my egg shaped folk art beads. The black of the beads was showing through the shapes I was cutting out of thin sheets of clay. I discovered that if I backed the sheets with white then the appliques really popped. At one point I accidently ran a sheet through the very thinnest setting on the pasta machine and was absolutely thrilled to see how the thin color washed brilliantly over the white.
I’ve been playing with colorwashing every since.
